Reverse Engineering Objects - 3 Options

For the assignment this week we were tasked with finding three objects that would be challenging yet achievable to reverse engineer in Rhino throughout a three week period. Objects that can be dissected into at least three pieces as every piece of the final modelled object must be modelled. It was recommended to stick to mechanical objects and I made sure to keep that sort of category of object into consideration when searching for viable object candidates.

 LED USB Ring Light:

I chose this object because its of a larger size and splits into many pieces, but are relatively simple in form. The size being larger is a plus as it makes it less complicated with measuring pieces and translating it into Rhino. For each of my objects chosen I liked having some level of mechanical or technological use to it, and dissecting a component filled with LEDs is always very fascinating to me. It is composed of simple pieces that do just click into each other as well as a few screws to keep the LED board in place, so there's a decent variety in forms to play around with when modelling.

Plastic Clamp:

This object is very simple, just a clamp held together with a spring and a meta rod. It does feature screws to be modelled but aren't part of the actual objects functionality, at least in this form. Although simple getting to play around with modelling springs and screws, as well as either side of the clamp through what I would presume use of many arcs and circles could be fun. It may be simple but because it lacks very much complexity and little bits and pieces its more achievable in three weeks.

LED Armband:

I really like this object as it also is simple as it is worn at concerts or events when handed out and lights up in coordination with the crowd, it looks simple and is simple. Comprises of just a plastic housing with LED board, two triple A batteries and a ribbon with spring clip to hold on wrist. I really like looking at the complexity of circuit boards and although very small I believe adds enough of a challenge to this object as the rest is relatively simple. There are support pieces built into the plastic housing from injection mold and with its curvature also provides a challenge. The spring clip additionally is a simple design but once again playing with springs are a something I'd like to experiment with.

I am most likely to proceed with my third object the LED armband as I feel although simple has components that are akin to that of the other objects I've chosen all in one.
